Wordle Tips for Beginners — 8 Rules That Will Help You Win
Most Wordle failures come not from lack of vocabulary but from avoidable strategic mistakes. These eight rules address the most common errors and will immediately improve your win rate and average guess count.
Tip 1: Never Start with ADIEU
Many beginners start with ADIEU because it contains four vowels. However, the goal of your first guess is not to find vowels but to eliminate the maximum number of letters. CRANE, SLATE, or STARE cover five distinct high-frequency letters and give you better information than ADIEU.
Tip 2: Yellow Tiles Tell You Where the Letter Isn't
A yellow tile means the letter is in the word but not in that position. Do not play a yellow letter in the same position again. Many beginners waste guesses by repositioning yellow letters incorrectly.
Tip 3: Use Your Second Guess for New Letters
Unless you have strong reason to guess based on your first results, use your second guess to introduce five entirely new letters. Two five-letter words can cover ten different letters, giving you enormous information for guesses three through six.
Tip 4: Beware of Double Letters
If you have identified four letters but cannot find the fifth, consider that one letter might appear twice. ABBEY, SPEED, FLUFF, KNEEL, and similar double-letter words regularly appear in Wordle and catch unprepared players.
Tip 5: Common Endings Are Your Friend
If you have three or four letters and a guess remaining, try words ending in -TION, -NESS, -MENT, -STER, or -IGHT. These suffixes contain multiple letters and constrain the answer significantly.
