How to Win at Wordle Every Day
Wordle rewards systematic thinking over lucky guesses. The player who wins consistently is not the one with the largest vocabulary but the one who eliminates the most letters efficiently with each guess.
The Optimal Starting Strategy
Your first guess should cover the five most common letters in five-letter English words: E, A, R, O, T. Words like AROSE, STARE, CRANE, and SLATE all achieve excellent initial letter coverage. CRANE covers C, R, A, N, E in a statistically favorable arrangement and eliminates five distinct letters on your first attempt.
Second Guess Strategy
After your first guess, you have information. Green letters are confirmed. Yellow letters need to move. Gray letters are eliminated entirely. Your second word should introduce five entirely new letters if possible, unless you have strong positional information worth exploiting immediately.
The Elimination Mindset
Two absolute rules: never repeat a gray letter, never play a yellow letter in the same position twice. These two rules alone prevent the vast majority of failed Wordle attempts. Players who fail on guess six almost always broke one of these rules earlier in the puzzle.
Common Wordle Traps
Double-letter words (FLUFF, ABBEY, SPEED) are common Wordle answers and catch many players off guard. Words ending in -LE, -ER, -LY, and -ED are disproportionately common. If you have four letters identified but cannot place the fifth, consider whether any confirmed letter might appear twice.
